Bodybuilding is in!
June 5, 2007 |
The sport's inclusion in the 2007 SEA Games was officially confirmed in yesterday's meeting of the Games Organising Committee. In last years federation meeting in Pattaya, bodybuilding was dropped from the list of SEA Games sports. Thailand has now successfully appealed that decision to great delight of the bodybuilding community in the region.
The 24th Southeast Asian Games will be held in Nakhon Ratchasima (Korat), Thailand from December 6 to December 16, 2007. The OCT is planning the event to coincide with the commemoration of 80th birthday of King Bhumibol Adulyadej. The Games will feature 44 sports in which 485 gold medals can be won, including 8 gold medals for bodybuilding.
It would be the sixth time Thailand has hosted the SEA Games. Thailand had hosted the 1959 (inaugural games), 1967, 1975, 1985 and 1995 SEA Games. The 2007 games were to be hosted in Singapore, but the city-state gave up the chance in 2004 as the future SportsHub in Kallang would be still under construction.
